Timbila is a traditional instrument of chope people in Southern Mozambique. Timbilas and chope musical traditions are the backbone of Magulamberre Band. The band is composed of two timbilas, West African style percussions and saxophone melodies, improvised to fit the playful timbila passages.
Timbila rythmics and scale differ from the Western musical tradition we are used to, and might thus sound a bit strange at the first time. In the same time, the instruments have a fascinating, beautifully natural and clear sound that has the capacity to capture audiences from small kids to world music professionals. Tempered with groovy percussions and saxophone melodies, the sound of Magulamberre Band makes a perfect set of danceable, fresh and entertaining music.
